WHITE NOSE PETE

White Nose Pete was a mythical brook trout that was said to live in
the Upper Dam Pool. Whenever a fisherman lost a fly to a big fish, it
was said to be White Nose Pete. White Nose got his name from all the
stolen flies that filled his mouth. Shang Wheeler, a famous carver
from Connecticut and frequent visitor to Upper Dam, carved this
likeness of the huge trout. He presented it to Wallace Stevens,
Carrie’s husband. This is one of the most important items that is
currently available for donation to the Museum in the name of a future
major supporter.
